Wildfires in West have gotten bigger, more frequent and longer since the 1980s

Anthony LeRoy Westerling, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Merced provides some critical data that demonstrates why we must not ignore the deteriorating situation we’re facing as the 2016 Fire Season gets under way. He attributes the worsening situation to climate change. Whilst this is likely to be the case, it is the continued developments in the wildland urban interface that makes it imperative that we find a better way of suppressing wildfires.
